The 5th BEV In-Depth Conference will take place on Thursday, May 28th in Greater Sudbury, Ontario at Cambrian College.
This year’s conference will tackle the theme of “Transforming the Critical Minerals Value Chain” featuring over 250 leaders from mining, automotive, defense, mineral processing, battery technology, clean energy, government, and more. Serving to advance the vision of a mines to battery electric economy, the conference will explore ideas and solutions towards establishing a sustainable and ethical supply of domestic critical minerals, and the urgent need to develop our domestic battery materials processing infrastructure.
The 5th BEV In-Depth: Mines to Mobility conference is presented by the City of Greater Sudbury, Cambrian College, the Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation (CEMI), the Electric Vehicle Society, Frontier Lithium, Laurentian University, NORCAT, and the Ontario Centre of Innovation (OCI), and in partnership with Electric Autonomy Canada and MineConnect.
This year’s conference is the anchor event of Mining the Future Week, alongside NORCAT’s Mining Transformed underground tech exhibition and the MICA Demo Day – both showcasing emerging mining technologies and strengthening industry collaboration.
With Canada and Europe facing major challenges to their industrial base, the deepening economic relationship between the two in the “Alliance for the Future” presents an opportunity for shared prosperity and strategic resilience. Making the most of the opportunity will require innovative thinking to harness the power of partnerships.
While battery ecosystems in both nations are inherently linked to the automotive sector, batteries are a key technology for countless industries, from power tools to medical devices, from mobile robots to drones, and from renewable energy systems to defence technology. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance for both countries to establish a resilient battery supply chain. Looking at respective priorities and emerging opportunities, we can compare them and put forward some recommendations on further connecting the German and Canadian battery ecosystems.
